Tania C. Mastrapa, Ph.D. focuses her consulting practice on the areas of privatization and confiscated property in Cuba. She advises historical owners and their heirs on potential claims mechanisms in a future Cuba. Dr. Mastrapa also assists prospective foreign investors seeking to avoid trafficking in confiscated property on the island.


A dual citizen of Spain and the United States, Dr. Mastrapa speaks frequently throughout Europe and North America on privatization and property restitution. She has been quoted in BBC, BBC Mundo, El Nuevo Herald, El País, Los Angeles Times and Miami Herald among other national and international media sources. Several of her publications on confiscated property and restitution are forthcoming.


Dr. Mastrapa’s academic specializations are in Comparative Politics and International Relations. Her research focus is in the field of Transitional Justice, specifically property reform in Communist and post Communist countries. Other research interests include collective guilt, Communist era secret police files, lustration and prosecution, and exile studies.
